As you may or may not know, I am currently studying Classical Civilisations and Literature at university. A lot of people go into university with no clue of where they want to end up in their life. I was one of these people. I was aware that many jobs out there give a leg up to people with degrees – though obviously not all jobs – so I knew that I wanted to go to university. My mother didn’t enjoy time at university, my father did, so I had two very different sides of the same coin to think about. Ultimately I did go to university and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I won’t go on about what I love about university and why in this post, but if you are curious let me know and I might do a post on it.
I had no idea what I wanted to do, so instead I chose a course which I knew that I would love. Since I was a child I have loved the stories of Ancient Greece and Rome, the myths of the like. I’ve loved them and so when I could do an entire course on it, I jumped at the chance. Seriously, to do a degree on your perfect subject, it’s just amazing.
As I was saying anyway, I took the course with no idea about a future career. In fact I completed an entire first year with no plans for the end of my course. It was only until my first year was long over, I had done my exams and received by results, that I finally decided what I wanted to do. It was a long road getting there but, I’ve finally decided to follow the archaeologist career path which combines everything I love. Classical civilisations, traveling and physical activities. Its the total opposite of the dreaded desk job. Upon deciding this I have arranged meetings with my tutor to discuss my options and looked for further options. I changed my modules to pick up some more centred options.
I really wanted to write this post to encourage those who still aren’t certain about where they want to go. If you look, if you work, you will find what your looking for. If you have a story to share, please put it in the comments below, we love reading new things.
